Johannes Scapula (fl. 1580; n. ca. 1540 - m. circa 1600), di origine tedesca, «Johannes Scapula war 1568 Gymnasiarch in Lausanne, 1580 wurde er Professor für Griechisch und Moral an der dortigen Akademie. Er war Mitarbeiter von Stephanus (sein Famulus, wie es bei Zedler heißt, und der “Gehülffe in seiner Buchdruckerey”) und soll sich bei der Abfassung seines Wörterbuchs aus dessen “Thesaurus linguae Graecae” großzügig bedient haben». «Scapula, John, a lexicographer who was employed to the printing house of Henry Stephans [1531-1598], at Lyons, acquired a considerable sum by publishing an abridgment of a work his employer was preparing for the press, in 1580. The time of his death is not known» (Charles N. L’opera cui accenna Baldwin deve essere appunto il Lexicon Graecolatinum novum in quo ex primitiuorum et simplicium fontibus derivata atque composita ordine non minus naturali, quam alphabetico, breviter et dilucide deducuntur, Basileae, ex Officina Heruagiana, per Eusebium Episcopium, 1580.
